Facilities Technician

The Facilities Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading facility systems and equipment; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; assisting other skilled trades; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner, and directing assigned workers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for school personnel for any building issues (climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies, and repairs)
  • Monitor/assist contractor and outside vendor performance to ensure work is completed according to specifications.
  • Independently perform routine scheduled preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment.
  • May act as the project coordinator for small construction and repair projects.
  • Assist with maintaining building security and immediately respond to building emergencies on an as needed basis.
  • Monitor, replace and obtain light bulbs in all assigned facilities.
  • Perform basic electrical work and determine when an electrician is required.
  • Hang pictures, whiteboards and dismantle/install furniture as needed
  • Coordinate and assist with departmental and employee moves.
  • Transport goods or equipment as assigned.
  • Perform routine quality control inspections of janitorial and landscaping subcontractors to ensure the property is maintained properly.
  • Assist the Operations Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budget.
  • Solicit bids and quotes from vendors.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds, work in tight or confined spaces, work with lifts and ladders, and perform rooftop work.
  • Ability to perform work in varying environments; may be required to work outdoors 95% of the time and exposed to the elements and inclement weather.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain all necessary tools to perform daily tasks.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical degree preferred.
  • Experience in general construction along with a mechanical aptitude
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Fortitude to complete all tasks independently, properly, and on time.
  • Ability to thrive in academic entrepreneurial culture and interact with all levels of management, staff, students and their families.
  • Possess adequate computer skills utilizing MS Office Suite applications and the ability to use all functions of a smartphone.

Additional Requirements

 

Type of clearance: Must passing a fingerprint criminal history check, from the State Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information as required under R.S. 17:15 “Criminal History Review” and R.S. 15:587.1 “The Louisiana Child Protection Act. 

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
