POSITION: Social Media & Content Intern

DEPARTMENT: Great Hearts Christian Academies

LOCATION: Gilbert Campus and Maryvale Campus                                           

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Enterprise Operations

SALARY RANGE: Non-exempt, Hourly $16.00

Position Summary

 

We are seeking a creative, organized, and execution-focused Social Media & Content Intern to support short-term content creation and social media initiatives. This role is ideal for a self-starter who is comfortable both planning and executing content, capturing photos and video, and producing Canva-based collateral for events, social channels, and outreach efforts.

The intern will play a key role in building a sustainable foundation for future content by developing a formal content runbook and creating a fresh stockpile of high-quality visual assets. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, clear deliverables, and defined outcomes.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Content Strategy & Planning

 

Develop a formal social media content runbook, including:

  • Content themes and pillars

  • Posting cadence recommendations

  • Platform-specific best practices

  • Asset organization and usage guidelines

 

Support short-term content planning aligned to events, campaigns, and outreach needs.

 

Content Capture & Creation

  • Capture original photos and short videos (on-site and/or in-the-field, as applicable) to build a refreshed library of content.

  • Edit and format images and videos for use across social media platforms.

  • Create and organize a stockpile of evergreen content for future use.

 

Design & Collateral Production

 

Produce Canva-based collateral including:

  • Social media graphics and posts

  • Event flyers and promotional assets

  • Outreach and marketing visuals

 

Ensure brand consistency in fonts, colors, tone, and overall presentation.

 

Social Media Execution

  • Support posting and scheduling of content across social platforms, as assigned and in collaboration with Great Hearts America.

  • Adapt content for different channels while maintaining brand voice and quality.

  • Track basic performance insights (engagement, reach) to inform improvements.

 

 

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand priorities, timelines, and event needs.

  • Incorporate feedback efficiently and make revisions as needed.

  • Maintain clear organization of files, assets, and documentation.

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

  • Strong interest in social media, digital content, and visual storytelling

  • Working knowledge of Canva (required)

  • Comfortable capturing content using a smartphone or basic camera equipment

  • Basic understanding of major social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

  • Experience creating short-form video (Reels, Stories, TikTok-style content)

  • Understanding of brand consistency and visual standards

  • Prior internship, coursework, or personal portfolio related to marketing, communications, or social media

  • Self-starter with a “see it, own it, execute it” mindset

  • Creative, resourceful, and adaptable

  • Open to feedback and quick iteration

  • Professional, reliable, and collaborative

 

 

Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in marketing, communications, graphic design, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience through internships or personal projects.

 

Experience: Prior experience creating social media content, capturing photos or video, or producing digital marketing assets through an internship, academic work, or personal portfolio is preferred but not required.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card.

  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

  • Travel required: Will need to travel between the Great Hearts Home Office and other GHCA current and future locations.
