A $4,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position.  Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0. 

·       $1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.

·       $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

·       $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a motivated and qualified candidate who has Behavioral Health experience providing crisis intervention and crisis counseling to adults and youth diagnosed with mental illness, substance abuse disorders, and or co-occurring disorders for the Mobile Crisis Co-Responder Team Clinician III position for the Marcus Alert program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and prevention mental health services to residents of Virginia Beach presenting danger/risk of danger to self/others or inability to care for self as a result of mental illness.
  • Provide pre-admission screening services to persons in need of voluntary admission to a state psychiatric facility or involuntary admission to any psychiatric facility.
  • Provide consultation to community care givers regarding persons in crisis. 
  • Work with VBPD-CIT Officer in the community providing consultation, diversion, or preadmission screening assessments as part of Virginia Beach’s Mobile Co-Responder Team (MCRT)
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention services that, in every case, utilize the least restrictive means possible to meet client needs.
  • Collaborate with other ES staff and supervisors to maintain MCRT schedule.
  • As a member of the emergency clinical team, work a schedule as assigned by the program supervisor in accordance with client needs.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required. 
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention services that, in every case, utilize the least restrictive means possible to meet client needs. 
  • Refer and link clients to ongoing services, when needed, following crisis stabilization.
  • Accept and complete assignments outside of clinical duties that may include serving on committees, leading teams, developing projects, providing public education on specific topics, or other related administrative assignments.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions. Must have a current and valid driver's license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional-Adult (QMHP - A) or Qualified Mental Health Professional - Child (QMHP-C). ALL POSITIONS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

Clinician licensure in Virginia as LPC, LCSW, or LCP.
Master’s Degree in Human Services field.
Virginia BH Preadmission screen certification.
Experience providing crisis counseling.
At least two (2) years Behavioral Health experience.
Experience answering and responding to crisis calls.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
