A $4,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position.  Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0. 

  • $1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
  • $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
  • $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking an experienced Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) with an active Virginia License.  This position will provide clinical services to adults diagnosed with mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders receiving services delivered by the department's Behavioral Health Adult Outpatient Services program.  Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide Clinical assessment and person-centered treatment planning to citizens of Virginia Beach seeking mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring Disorders services.
  • Complete diagnosis reviews based on assessment.  
  • Document medical necessity using ASAM criteria.
  • Develop clear, quantified service plans, individualized to client problem/needs, goals and objectives in format approved by Quality Assurance Department.
  • Triage non-emergency calls and provide information and referral to community providers when appropriate. 
  • Complete and monitor referrals to other agency units/services.
  • Work with medical staff to determine needs of individuals who are requesting medications services.
  • Work as part of a team to continue to develop client’s engagement in services and keep focus on readiness to change as a major clinical focus. 
  • Provide Motivational Services that provide clients an opportunity to enhance their readiness for treatment and change.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assures that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required
  • Work closely with Emergency Services, Pathways, and the other Same Day Access (SDA) staff. 
  • Provide “Front Door” services that are person centered and recovery oriented.
  • This is an Alpha 1 position.  In the event of an emergency, employees shall be required to report to their emergency assignment as directed by their supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor,
therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions. Must have a current and valid driver's license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be LMHP (LCSW, LPC, LMFT or a Licensed Clinical Psychologist) or LMHP-eligible.

Preferences:

Strong Preference: Active Virginia license as a LMHP.
Five (5) years’ experience working with Adults with severe SMI, SUD and or co-occurring disorders.
Experience in crisis intervention and assessment, treatment planning and care coordination.
Experience with triage and completing a rapid initial differential diagnosis and Level of care.
Experience providing individual and group services utilizing evidence-based treatment approach.
Experience with HIPPA requirements including 42 CFR Part 2 compliance.
Experience with strong computer skills, virtual technology eg: , WebEx, Doxy Me, Google duo.
