About Houston-Galveston Area Council   

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.

What will I be doing? 

ü Web Application Development: Designing, coding, and modifying websites and applications to meet our specifications, focusing on both layout and functionality to create user-friendly, effective web experiences.

ü Database Management: Developing and maintaining databases to ensure data security, integrity, and efficient integration with web services, facilitating easy access and reliable storage of information.

ü System Analysis & Integration: Analyzing system requirements to effectively integrate various software components, ensuring a seamless and cohesive user experience across all digital platforms.

ü Collaboration and Support: Working closely with team members across departments, providing essential support and technical expertise, and delivering training to ensure all teams are equipped with the knowledge needed for their roles.

 

Key Qualifications 

ü Expertise in Web Application Development: Proven ability to create sophisticated web applications with a strong focus on data visualization, enhancing UI/UX through the use of on-demand and live dashboards.

ü Experience with Database Management and Integration: Demonstrated experience in developing, managing, and integrating databases, with a capacity to effectively leverage internal and external data sources. This includes assimilating data from various entities into cohesive and functional databases.

ü Strong Understanding of Data Visualization: A solid understanding of data visualization principles and the ability to apply these to improve user interface and experience. Proficiency in utilizing data to drive decision-making and enhance application functionality is essential.

ü Cloud Migration Skills: Experience with, or a strong understanding of, cloud technologies and strategies for database migration. The ability to ensure a smooth transition of databases to cloud-based platforms, optimizing performance and scalability.

ü Collaborative Team Player: Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to a cooperative environment that fosters innovation and the achievement of organizational goals.

ü Adaptability to Technological Advancements: A commitment to staying abreast of the latest trends in technology, data visualization, and UI/UX design, ensuring that web solutions are cutting-edge and relevant.

 

Do you have…  

ü Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

ü 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties 

 

Preferred Qualifications

ü Advanced experience with Bootstrap, HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS as well as libraries such as jQuery.

ü Hands-on experience with server-side development, including API integration, client-side JavaScript, and managing databases. Knowledge of Node.js is particularly valued.

ü A master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related IT discipline. Equivalent professional experience is also considered.

 

Expected Hiring Salary Range

$60,000.00 - $85,000.00
