About Houston-Galveston Area Council

What will I be doing?

ü Monitor and review the performance of investments & develop investment reports

ü Analyze trends to reduce financial risks associated with making investments or spending decisions

ü Monitor the agency’s cashflows and develop strategies for the best management of limited resources

ü Evaluate fiscal policies and procedures & ensure compliance with laws and regulations

ü Compile budgets for the agency and evaluate the long-term needs of each department

ü Advise department directors on spending, budgetary and other financial matters

ü Make hiring and other personnel decisions within the areas of purview

ü Oversee all financial reporting & forecasting activities which include the preparation of monthly & annual financial reports

ü Oversee all finance/accounting functions to include general accounting, cash management, payroll, accounts payables, accounts receivables, travel, grant management, taxes and compliance

ü Ensure close adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), GASB, 2 CFR 200-Uniform Guidance and Texas Grant Management Standards (TxGMS)

ü Lead all annual external audit activities and prepare the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report & other audit schedules

 

Key Qualifications 

ü Strong understanding of governmental financial reporting and strong analytical skills

ü Effective written and verbal communication

ü Ability to develop efficient working relationships with colleagues across all department and seniority levels

ü Excellent leadership skills and proven experience with supervising a medium-sized team

ü Exceptional time management and organizational skills

 

Do you have…

ü  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related business field  

ü  10 years of experience working with local government and/or nonprofit program

 

Preferred Qualifications

ü  Graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related business field

ü  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

ü  More than 10 years of experience working with local government and/or nonprofit program
