About Houston-Galveston Area Council

What will I be doing?

ü Advises staff on the interpretation and application of agency policies and state and federal laws.

ü Acts as a company advocate and advisor with respect to legal matters and provides guidance concerning legal rights and obligations, and recommends best practices and courses of action related to legal issues.

ü Assist with drafting, reviewing, and updating agency policies and procedures.

ü Perform legal research utilizing both written and electronic sources. Gather and compile facts and relevant case information. Many of the legal issues addressed will revolve around contracts; employment law; law as it applies to a political subdivision for varying issues; and, conflicts of interest and ethics as it relates to public officials.

ü Collaborate with all agency departments and provide legal expertise as needed for one time or ongoing projects.

ü Assist with reviewing, negotiating, and drafting agency agreements.

ü Prepares legal memoranda, proposals, and reports.

 

Key Qualifications

ü Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

ü Strong analytical and research skills.

ü Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

ü Detail-oriented and highly organized.

ü Excellent problem-solving skills.

ü Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

ü Experience drafting and reviewing contracts.

ü Experience in labor and employment law preferred, but not required.

ü Experience in administrative law preferred, but not required.

ü Professional while friendly and approachable.

ü Admitted to practice law in Texas.

Do you have…  

ü Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

ü 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, schools, or in job-related duties
