About Houston-Galveston Area Council   

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.

What will I be doing? 

ü Ensuring assigned staff compliance with Professional Auditing Standards

ü Supervising two to three staff auditors and ensuring their compliance with department policies and procedures

ü Monitoring staff progress on projects and doing preliminary workpaper reviews

ü Scheduling and sometimes attending site visits of subrecipients/contractors

ü Performing as well as supervising subrecipient monitoring activities

ü Completing special projects and investigations of sensitive and/or complex assignments

ü Working with the Director to ensure efficient and effective department operations

 

Key Qualifications  

ü Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field

ü At least three (3) years of supervisory experience

ü At least seven (7) years of internal auditing and/or public accounting experience

ü At least five (5) years of governmental accounting and/or auditing

ü Professional Certification as a CPA and/or CIA

 

Do you have…   

ü  Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

ü 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties
