The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services Behavioral Health Division is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse Supervisor with experience working with adults that have mental health, substance use, and / or co-occurring disorders in an inpatient or outpatient setting to include supervisory experience for our Adult Outpatient Services program.

A $10,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original full-time employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.

  • $2,500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
  • $3,500 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
  • $4,000 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

     

     

     

Duties:

  • Lead the delivery of nursing services in a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative behavioral health outpatient clinic. 
  • Collaborate with medical staff and other multi-disciplinary treatment team providers to inform client care plans, develop risk management plans, and identify nursing interventions that enhance wellness.
  • Promote nursing best practices and maintains standards for excellence to provide quality services that utilize a holistic approach to care.
  • Utilize nursing experience to assess clinic operations and assist with policy development and operational planning. 
  • Conduct recruitment and retention activities for assigned RN and LPN positions to select and retain a skilled, resilient, and collaborative nursing team.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance management for assigned nurses with the goal of maximizing professional development, maintaining competency levels, and cultivating a positive team experience.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements and establishes quality control mechanisms that support consistent standards of practice.
  • Create a learning environment and encourages the adoption of nursing best practices to enhance programming and clinical efficacy.
  • Participate in the Behavioral Health Leadership team and serves on various project committees.
  • Reviews data, measures performance and executes continuous quality improvement strategies.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Commonwealth of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and seven (7) or more years of nursing experience (specialty area to be specified by the hiring department) OR an Associates Degree in Nursing and nine (9) years of nursing experience (specialty area to be specified by the hiring department). Current CPR certification. A current and valid drivers license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Some positions may require psychiatric nursing experience (program specific). This position may require incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety footwear, hard hats, safety eyewear, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employees supervisor based on position assignments.

Preferences:

Experience as an RN supervising nurses in a psychiatric inpatient or outpatient setting.
Experience as an RN working with adults who have mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
Experience with recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new nursing staff.
Experience writing and implementing policies and procedures related to behavioral health nursing services.
Experience documenting nursing services in an electronic record.
Experience administering long acting injectable antipsychotic medications.
Experience administering medications in an inpatient detoxification unit, a substance use disorder residential unit, or an outpatient medical office addiction treatment setting.
Experience with Microsoft Office products.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
