Position Purpose: Assist in the developing of cost estimates and resource requirements for various types of Electric Utility civil access and grading construction projects.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of project estimates by reviewing drawings, scope of work documents, pricing schedules, and specifications provided by the customer and performing labor and material take-offs and cost history analyses to support proposal development
  • Assist project team in scoping of projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements
  • Assist with the development of construction and billing schedules
  • Assist with the development of standardized historical cost databases and application tools to aid future estimates
  • Research, contact, organize, and evaluate subcontractor, equipment, and material pricing provided by vendors based on project location
  • Attend customer pre-bid meetings at the project locations or customers office location
  • Perform physical or clerical tasks on various project sites during the first year to obtain required field experience

  • Experience with one or more of the following, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Insite, CAD, or other takeoff software.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior estimating or field experience preferred, not required. MJE is willing to train with appropriate previous experience in the electrical utility work, heavy industrial work, or past technical training/education in the electrical or construction industry.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position over 50% of the time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
  • Continuously operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, scanner, and computer printer
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and coworkers and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Occasionally lifting 20 pounds
