Title: Audio Visual Engineer Tier II

A Tier III AV Support Engineer is a technical expert at designing, operating, and maintaining audio-visual systems. This person will bring with them industry experience of overseeing complex audio-visual systems through all stages of deployment, using modern structured cabling techniques and networking standards. Comprehensive experience with creating, modifying, and marking up technical documentation (CAD) for the purpose of disseminating information. This individual can stay calm when presented with overlapping priorities. Someone who can be onsite as needed to troubleshoot and interface directly with customers. Must possess the ability to communicate clearly to individuals of varying technical backgrounds. Experience will demonstrate capability to assist in av system design, diagnostics, management, and maintenance of audio, visual, teleconference systems, and web conferencing solutions.

Duties:

  • Collaborate on AV system designs, ensuring end user owner advocacy inform the requirements
  • Provide oversight of AV system installation and certify system commissioning
  • Manage onsite NREL AV Subcontractors, assisting with deployment of conference room AV technology
  • Respond to requests for Tier III Support using NREL documentation and ticket tracking system
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of written technical, FAQ, and how-to information for AV support technicians, Tier I support, Tier II Support, and NREL users/clients
  • Diagnostic troubleshooting and ensure problem resolution of AV Support Requests; AV hardware, cabling, computer USB peripherals, AV Control Processors, Audio-Digital Signal processors, Laser-Phosphor Projectors, Interactive Whiteboards, Large Displays, telephones, video teleconferencing systems.

  • Well versed in electronics signal flow and audiovisual system complexities
  • Experience supporting and managing virtual meeting applications such as MS Teams, Cisco WebEx, Zoom
  • Strong computer skills including Windows, Mac, Android and iOS platforms
  • Ability to work professionally as part of a team and advocate directly for end-users
  • Make precise evaluations and observations for audio visual and technological modifications to a space
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities; prioritizes and performs a variety of concurrent tasks

Preferred Quals:

  • Experience with PC, Mac, and Linux platforms
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience working with commercial conference room audiovisual systems; installation, service, maintenance, live event production, broadcast radio, or similar equivalent technology
  • Experience installing and maintaining audiovisual control systems
  • Manufacturer training certifications for audiovisual systems, audio DSPs, and related sub-system components (Cisco, QSC-QSYS, Crestron, Commend)
  • Experience interpreting and creating detailed CAD based system drawings ready to be built
  • Current familiarity with commercial audiovisual, videoconferencing, and broadcast manufacturers
  • Experience servicing and maintaining public address or distributed audio systems
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of IP and ISDN network connectivity
  • A/V cabling standards; HDMI, distribution/conversion equipment and installation methodology
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow IT service management system
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certifications preferred
