JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:                       FLEET MECHANIC – COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

DEFINITION:             Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the fleet mechanic is responsible for the daily preventive maintenance and repair of PCA fleet vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS

            Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prefer ASE certification in brakes, steering/suspension; electrical; and refrigeration/air conditioning.
     
    Experience:
  • Must have 3 to 5 years’ experience in auto maintenance, refrigeration, and repair.
     
    Professional Characteristics:
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
     
    Additional Requirements:
     
  • Valid driver’s license (preferably Pennsylvania), and have had no accidents, traffic violations, forfeitures, or convictions for three years prior to employment date.
  • Pass Keystone AAA driving test.
  • Pass a physical exam, drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check.
     
     
    DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
  1. Maintenance and repair of the Home Delivered Meals (HDML) vehicles so that the HDML has a sufficient quantity of daily delivery vehicles.  Prioritize daily HDML vehicle inspections for conditions (e.g., flat tires and wiper blades) which will prevent meal delivery vehicles from staring their daily delivery routes.

 

  1. Complete authorized repairs of on-site vehicles.  Repairs will be made to both PCA Meals Fleet vehicles and Downtown Fleet vehicles.  This work will include (but not be limited to) brake work; fluid changes; four wheel computerized alignment; wheel balancing; battery changing; tire changing, repairs and rotation; changing of fuses and light bulbs; wiper blades; and all items related to preventive maintenance inspections and preparation for state safety inspections.
     
  2. Complete and thorough documentation of vehicle repairs, parts, usage, equipment usage, and supplies usage.  Daily submission of required maintenance reports and other periodic reports as required to Transportation Manager.
     
  3. Evaluate and generate reports on equipment conditions for MDC fleet.
     
  4. Refrigeration preventive maintenance checks on PCA “Hotshot” vehicles, after completing training provided through PCA. Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems. Install, overhaul and repair electrical refrigeration and electrical units.

 

  1. Maintain continuous and open communication with the Transportation Manager regarding authorization for repairs for all PCA vehicles; parts ordered from outside vendors; shipping and receiving documents; and vehicle parts and supplies inventory.
     
  2. Coordination of all communication relating to vehicle repairs between PCA, HDML site contractor staffs, outside parts vendors, and outside repair vendors.
     
  3. Direct reporting of all observed PCA fleet vehicle damage incurred.  Cooperating with HDML site contractor staff in accident reporting process and coordinate movement of damaged vehicles to outside repair vendors.
     
  4. Maintain current inventory of all Maintenance Bay Service equipment and supplies.  Coordinate authorized parts purchases, monitor all authorized Maintenance Bay equipment servicing and repairs.
     
  5. Proper disposal of waste fluids, in accordance with state, city, federal and PCA regulations and procedures.
     
  6. Attendance at meetings, as required.
     
  7. Other duties, as required by PCA Transportation Manager.
