General Task: Performs daily duties as assigned by manager or scheduling system. Technician will perform tasks associated with the installation, acceptance, and maintenance of a variety of telecommunications equipment in support of Metro-Ethernet, FTTC, DWDM, SONET, IP, SNMP and various central Office equipment. Responsible for dispatching to customer premises to install, test, and repair services, CPE, and phones. Installation & Repair: Performs daily duties as assigned.
- Efficient and timely integration of Company trouble-shooting processes, including proper ticket processing and supporting documentation, timely dispatch, reduction of mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) and readily supporting internal and external NOC personnel - Personnel must have reliable transportation, tools, and network test equipment (OTDR capable up to 10G)
Must Have: 1. Experience with local/remote physical layer testing standards for DS0’s, DS1’s, DS3’s and optical OC3- OC192 2. Experience with Ethernet 10 Meg, 10 Gig, 100 Gig (RFC-2544 testing) 3. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & Microsoft Visio 4. Experience with OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), Light meters and related equipment 5. Ability to read job descriptions and drawings 6. Ability to install hardware, i.e., racks, bays, mount equipment in racks 7. Terminate power cable into live BDFB or BDFP safely
Additional Requirements: 1. Experience with Nortel, Ciena, X-tera, Fujitsu, Lucent or other DWDM transport equipment 2. Experience with DAC’s, MI3 MUX’s 3. Experience with an industry standard telecom ticketing system such as Remedy 4. Read and understand manufacturer documentation to a high level 5. Run, lace, and dress ABAM and DS3 cable. Wire wrap DSX1 or install BNC’s as needed 6. Run, lace, and terminate power cable with lugs 7. Check power cabling for shorts, reversals, and power up equipment 8. Log into network elements (NE) 9. Provision non-default parameters into NE’s 10. Ability to perform preventative maintenance on NE’s
