Position: Regional Coordinator Special Education Transition Services
Department: Special Student Services
Reports to: Director of Special Student Services
Location: GHTX San Antonio Home Office, North Texas Home Office
FLSA: Exempt, benefit eligible.


Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership for the implementation of Transition Services for Special Education, which advance achievement for students served through Special Education. Support campuses to ensure these students are provided a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) through Individualized Education Programs. To facilitate the achievement of desired post-secondary outcomes, as well as college, career, and military readiness for students with disabilities. The Transition Coordinator will work to provide information to parents, students, and school staff about transition services and agencies in all Great Hearts Texas regions. Monitor compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements to include Transition.


Qualifications: Education/Certification:
• Bachelors Degree in relevant educational field a Master’s Degree (Preferred)
• Valid Texas Special Education certification/endorsement required


Experience:
• Five years of successful teaching experience in Special Education.
• Two years of successful Special Education Leadership experience (Preferred).


Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws related to Special Education and Transition requirements. A strong understanding of the evaluation process and eligibility criteria for such programs, that include Transition.
• Expertise in ARD development, transition goals, and compliance with Transition Services
• Experience in project design, implementation, and monitoring of Special Education Transition and 18+ programs.
• Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness.
• Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners.
• Ability to plan coordinate, prioritize, and multitask responsibilities and deadlines.
• Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assists in the development and delivery of special education transition and instructional programs that incorporate district goals and support student achievement within the classical model.
• Establishes and maintains a professional relationship and open communication with headmasters, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
• Work collaboratively with campus SPED coordinators, teachers, and staff to establish realistic and measurable transition goals for student learning and post-secondary achievement.
• Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of transition related instruction through coaching and collaborative problem solving.
• Assists campus coordinators with transition series for special education students entering and
exiting public school programs.

• Plan and provide appropriate staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
• Conduct State Performance Plan (SPP) Indicator Audits
• Attend mandatory TED training as outlined by TEA.
• Assists with the supervision of the writing/distribution of the Special Education program manuals and forms related to transition services as requested.
• Develop partnerships among school staff, students, parents, and local and regional representatives of state agencies to facilitate a coordinated set of transition activities and supports to meet student’s post-secondary goals.
• Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
• Prepares federal/state/local reports accurately and timely and makes local recommendations relative to the Special Student Services programs, as requested by the Director
• Works collaboratively with other Regional Special Student Service Coordinators to accomplish the district’s mission and goals in Special Student Services.
