Position Overview:
The Curriculum Developer serves as a subject-matter expert, coach, and leader in both curriculum development and professional development. This individual plays a crucial role in supporting the design, implementation, and execution of high-quality asynchronous content and teaching strategies. As part of their role, they will coach and mentor subject-matter experts and coach synchronous and asynchronous teachers ensuring best practices in instructional content development. The Curriculum Developer also facilitates professional development opportunities, which require access to sensitive student data to evaluate teaching effectiveness and instructional outcomes, ensuring that the curriculum is tailored to meet the diverse academic needs of students. The Curriculum Developer is responsible for fostering an environment of academic excellence, contributing to the continuous improvement of the instructional content and teacher effectiveness through ongoing support, coaching, and curriculum oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance (70%)
- Utilize current Teacher Resource Portal documents and templates to curate intentional curricular materials, all needed assessments, documents, graphics, images, video/audio recordings, and any other supplemental course materials for assigned course(s).
- Incorporate state standards for all Great Hearts regions.
- Design a logical sequence of topics that cover overview information, units on major pedagogical practices, and curriculum unit walk-throughs; note when unit pacing deviates from Teacher Resource Portal materials.
- Lead feedback sessions on produced materials and implement changes as needed.
- Knowledge of and commitment to sound classical and pedagogical practices for asynchronous learning in order to oversee and review course materials while providing feedback and recommendations for improvements when necessary.
- Oversee and review course materials to ensure pedagogical soundness, providing feedback and recommendations for improvements where necessary.
- Ensure instructional content is regularly updated and optimized for the Learning Management System (Canvas preferred).
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to monitor the progress of course development, making data-driven recommendations for content improvement.
- Guide the creation of interactive, engaging learning experiences that meet student needs and align with accessibility standards, ensuring that all learners, including those with disabilities, can access and benefit from the content.
Professional Development (20%)
- Design and lead professional development workshops focused on best practices in online education and pedagogy, particularly for faculty and staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to Course Developers and Flex Teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Evaluate and refine professional development programs to align with evolving educational goals and institutional priorities.
- Engage in continuous learning and development activities to stay abreast of advancements in asynchronous teaching methodologies and educational technology.
- Use national curriculum and PD templates to produce professional development teacher-learning modules.
Asynchronous Content Oversight (10%)
- Work with instructional staff to monitor and adjust course content, incorporating scalable instructional design methodologies to improve student learning outcomes.
- Lead the development and implementation of course development strategies, providing guidance to Course Developers to enhance learning design.
- Collaborate with Course Developers, subject matter experts, and instructional designers to create and maintain high-quality instructional content.
- Ensure content aligns with pedagogical best practices and addresses diverse academic needs through quality assurance reviews.
- Mentor and support contractors and subject matter experts in applying effective asynchronous learning pedagogy to enhance curriculum design.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree in Education or related field preferred.
Experience: At least 3 years of work experience with Great Hearts or a similar classical education institution. Prior experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or asynchronous learning is a plus.
Skills & Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous learning pedagogy and instructional design.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) and instructional design software.
- Ability to work with sensitive student data to evaluate teaching practices and improve instructional outcomes.
- Leadership and mentoring experience in supporting teachers and contractors.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Additional Requirements:
Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Level One fingerprint clearance card.
Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
