Role: Director of Academy Giving

  • Full-time position with benefits
  • Manages fundraising and community development for the Great Hearts Arlington community
  • Matrix management, reporting directly to Great Hearts Arlington Headmaster and indirectly to GHTX Sr. Director of Advancement and Communication
  • Located in Arlington, Texas; occasional travel within North Texas required
  • Anticipated start date is February 1, 2020

Great Hearts Arlington is the third Great Hearts Academy coming to North Texas and will open August 2021, to serve students in grades K-5. At full scale Great Hearts Arlington will serve 1,400 students in grades K-12.


Purpose:  The Director of Academy Giving is a member of the Great Hearts Arlington administrative team and is responsible for building and maintaining relationships throughout the campus to drive financial support for the school through the annual giving campaign. As a public charter school, Great Hearts receives the majority of its funding from state and federal governments, however a financial gap exists from this funding and the cost to deliver an exceptional education. The Director of Academy Giving is a key team member charged with telling this story and driving annual financial support from families.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement both predetermined development strategies and apply creative experiences to new strategies
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward financial gifts from academy families and faculty, including direct asks
  • Reach and exceed fundraising and donor stewardship goals
  • Participation in and support academy-based capital campaigns, as needed
  • Central liaison to Headmaster for all campus fundraising activities
  • Plan and execute campus events (virtual and in-person) to drive engagement and philanthropy
  • Support families through the enrollment process, creating excitement and easing nerves as they enter a new school
  • Work in partnership with the Parent Service Organization (PSO) and home office advancement team, including the following departments: fundraising, communications, marketing, and advocacy
  • Maintain current information on fund development practices and procedures and develop processes and procedures as needed
  • Keep clear and precise records in donor database
  • Be the campus communicator, managing the newsletter and social media
  • Serve as a key public representative for the organization; including cultivating relationships with faculty, parents, community members, prospective donors, and volunteers in order to effectively communicate the mission and build a strong reputation for Great Hearts
  • Adhere to the Donor Bill of Rights


Education, Experience and Skills: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. A minimum of 2 – 3 years of success in a related role required.                                                                                             

  • Skilled at developing positive, trusting, and professional relationships with team members, families and donors
  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and presentation skills
  • Outgoing, relationship-oriented personality with the highest degree of personal integrity
  • Proven in taking initiative, prioritizing projects and workflow, and working independently
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of Great Hearts
  • Must be comfortable in a matrix reporting structure, reporting to one Headmaster with additional direction from the Senior Director of Advancement and Communication
  • Possess a growth mindset
  • Pass mandatory background screening
  • Fluency in Spanish is an asset.
  • CFRE is an asset.


Computer Skills:  Strong proficiency with computer skills including extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, Google Drive (Docs/Sheets/Slides) and donor databases. Experience managing social media outlets is preferred. Competence in Raiser’s Edge and Constant Contact are assets.


Travel Requirements: May need to travel locally to meet with academy families and attend school activities.


Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 25 pounds approximately.


Salary: Starting salary is $47,000.
