Position Summary

Lead a growing new team within Great Hearts. Working Supervision of small team of Development Data Specialists responsible for constituent and gift entry into Raiser’s Edge and other payment platforms (Centralized Development Operations), donation acknowledgement and data hygiene and maintenance. This position will include assisting lead Matching Gift/Employee Give Coordinator when needed and will conduct light troubleshooting of data issues when they arise. The Development Data Lead plays a key role in the successful operation of an evolving Development Department of Centralized Development Operations. The Development Data Lead is responsible for accurately and efficiently maintaining the integrity of and managing all aspects of the Great Hearts Development database as directed by the Development Systems Administrator as it relates to development operations policies and procedures. This role should see data as an information tool to help the team achieve success. The right candidate will be creative and innovatively provide solutions to guide the Development team to new heights acting as a member of the data architecture efforts. The Development Data Lead must be customer service focused, resourceful and can thrive in a fast-paced environment with superior attention to detail. This position requires an organized, proactive, and energetic individual who will work effectively with donors, corporations, and internal stakeholders.  

  • Schedule and supervise team of Data Specialists who have primary responsibility of entering and modifying constituents, gifts, and gift acknowledgement.
  • Manage daily operations of the Centralized Development Operations to ensure its effective use in a wide range of development activities. Ensure the team meets all closing deadlines, including month and year-end goals
  • Generate fundraising and revenue reports including, but not limited to, board giving, performance vs. projections, constituency, event, and other ad-hoc reports and queries.as requested.
  • Generate recurring reports including monthly and quarterly gift detail; contact reports for Development Officers; mailing lists for e-newsletter, and others.
  • Creation and review of external lists (ex. invitations, donor lists, lists being used for stewardship activity.
  • Responsible for all data manipulation for direct response program, including lists and coding for all online and direct mail effort as directed by management.
  • Be a subject matter expert on high-touch data entry.
  • Set high standards and accountability systems that encourage professional growth on the team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining integrity of database by:
    • Conducting Database Hygiene to Ensure all Raiser’s Edge (RE) code tables, as a fundamental part of the database, are clean for use.
    • Manage duplicate records in RE to assure zero information loss.
    • Perform scheduled hygiene queries in RE to confirm all records contain the necessary information for successful segmentation and production of philanthropy MarComm.
    • Participate in updates to manual and process documentation for all systems use by Development and related stakeholder departments.
    • Manages the team executing daily donation activity, including all online and offline giving, ensures that donations are correctly coded and credited to the appropriate constituent and that daily reconciliation and income reports are complete by the end of day.
    • Provides support to Development and finance staff when question, concerns or problems arise.
    • Participates in annual financial audits/reconciliations on an as needed basis.
    • Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations, and clients/constituents.

  • Solid understanding of the principles of database management and of Fundraising principles/methodology. Experience with donor management software, Raiser’s Edge, Raiser’s Edge-NXT proficiency.

Team Lead Responsibilities

Supervises the Development Data Specialists team – 2 team members to launch, designed to maximum capacity of team of 7.

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

Education and/or Experience: Three to five years of relational database experience within a fundraising environment. Raiser’s Edge experience 2+ years. Bachelor’s degree required. Knowledge of Blackbaud products, Raiser's Edge & Direct Marketing, preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Certification: Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge fundamentals certification preferred.

Language skills: Strong spoken and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to take decisive action.

Additional Requirements

Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP level fingerprint clearance card.

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Travel required: Occasional errands as it pertains to the coordination of the Major Gifts team needs.
