ALLETE, Inc. is building a sustainable energy future and is seeking a talented Energy Supply and Asset Optimization Manager with a strong knowledge of MISO, other energy markets, future market trends, and potential impacts on company assets to join its Strategy & Planning team. As a member of the Strategy & Planning department, you will work with a variety of individuals and teams, both within and outside of the organization, to support and communicate strategies for the Company and customer impacts. This position will be focused on directing, creating, and executing strategies and plans informed by analysis to address the Company's medium to long-term energy and capacity demands for native load and wholesale customers. The individual that joins this team will work with internal areas to originate, develop, negotiate, implement, and administer medium or long-term purchases/sales strategies to minimize customer costs and optimize Company assets based on projected energy positions. This role requires knowledge of generation operations, system operations, external capacity and energy markets customers, and an understanding of energy pricing and billing functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  • Collaborate with the short-term energy market areas of Energy Supply on market strategies and counterparty transactions. 
  • Responsible for identifying business opportunities associated with the Company’s various energy related assets. 
  • Partner with multiple stakeholders to mutually identify and develop opportunities, strategies, and requirements for the Company to meet its business objectives.
  • Lead development, design and execution of short and long-term operational strategies that provide innovative management of energy market, fuel, environmental, contract terms and transmission risks. 
  • Identify and anticipate evolving future market trends that have potential impact on Company assets in the MISO energy market.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Preferred majors include, but are not limited to, finance, economics, business administration, engineering or related field of study. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight years or more of job-related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIRMENTS:

  • The expectation for this role is to regularly work in person in Duluth, MN. This position may also be considered for a more flexible working environment, either a hybrid or remote work arrangement, but this is not guaranteed.
  • Requires a high level of leadership and interpersonal skills to develop and enhance working relationships with internal staff and management as well as external relationships to advocate for opportunities that benefit the company.
  • Advanced level communication skills to support and communicate strategies for the Company and customer impacts (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
