Minnesota Power’s Transmission & Distribution Planning team is seeking two Engineer I positions to help drive some of the largest and most impactful projects in the region. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate planning of transmission & distribution systems to ensure reliable, cost-effective service.
  • Support grid modernization efforts through analysis of automation, non-wire alternatives, and DER integration.
  • Conduct studies to identify system needs and recommend technology upgrades.
  • Prepare planning reports and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on major projects.
  • Coordinate system changes with external partners and regulators.
  • Provide technical support for project planning and regulatory filings.
  • Research new technologies to enhance reliability and integrate distributed resources.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics required.
    • Candidates graduating by December 31, 2026, will also be considered.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • No experience required.
  • Related utility engineering experience preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Basic understanding of the electric utility industry and power systems engineering.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems creatively, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Travel may be required dependent upon position responsibility.
  • Position may be subject to skills, job match, and/or aptitude assessments.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $84,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
