Laulima Government Solutions, LLC is looking for a qualified Staff Research Biologist to support our contract with USAISR Sensory Trauma.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform studies to develop treatments for sensory trauma in clinical trials and animal models.
  • Conduct research studies, in human subjects and animal models, including data collection and management of different aspects of projects.
  • Work with the sponsors, Principal investigators, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and Institutional Review Board to coordinate activities for protocol approval and implementation and to assure that appropriate regulatory documentation is completed.
  • Perform techniques including but not limited to 3-D printing, biomedical engineering, gene manipulation, culture and differentiation of stem cells, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, ophthalmic/auditory imaging and electroretinography and battlefield pain assessment/management.
  • Engage in research focused on the assessment and treatment of combat injuries affecting the sensory systems.
  • Engage in research focused on improving the in vitro and in vivo performance of sensory system treatments.
  • Operate specialized ophthalmological, audiological, and pain measuring equipment as required to assess sensory system function.
  • Design experiments and write protocols involving established animal models, as well as the development of new animal models for the treatment of sensory trauma and battlefield pain management.
  • Prepares and submits grant proposals to obtain intramural and extramural funds.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and other applicable regulations and guidelines which may include medical surveillance.
  • Provide data collection and analytical support to Sensory Trauma.
  • Document experimental results and tabulate data into spreadsheets, summarize data, prepare figures and conduct preliminary analysis.
  • Prepare figures, tables, and methodological text for presentations and manuscripts.
  • Perform appropriate statistical computations on raw data to determine significance, such as mean, standard deviation, standard errors, analysis of variance and statistical significance.
  • Calculate results of assays and evaluate validity of data collected.
  • Prepare photography, graphics, and image production, for study presentations and publications.
  • Participate in interpretation of results and prepares manuscripts, reports, and presentations for publication.
  • Participates in lectures, seminars, and conferences.
  • Publish at least one manuscript in a peer-reviewed and indexed journal annually.
  • Maintain research records and experimental data in compliance with regulatory committee policies.
  • Perform literature searches and retrospective data reviews to stay abreast of advances, treatments, and new technologies related to ocular trauma.
  • Provide human and animal research support to Sensory Trauma.
  • Monitor and analyze physiological data from human and animal models.
  • Develop animal models to study sensory trauma and battlefield pain management using large and small animals.
  • Monitor and analyze physiological data from human and animal models.
  • Conduct physiological testing and procedures in large and small animals, to include but not limited to Electrooculogram (EOG), Electroretinogram (ERG), and visual evoked potential (VEP) or other appropriate measures.
  • Provide expertise in operating specialized instrumentation, monitoring, care and observation during recovery, administration of experimental treatments, sample collection, and observation associated with the collection of research data.
  • Ensure clean, sterilized, and well-maintained, calibrated instruments and equipment in the experimental area.
  • Submit animal orders and schedule procedure rooms, vivarium, and veterinary support.
  • Assist technicians and residents on physiological testing and evaluation procedures.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in animal and human models in the field of sensory trauma/disease.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish and write scientific reports with minimal editing.
  • Knowledge of statistical software, JMP and SSPS.
  • Demonstrated (peer reviewed publications) knowledge of pathology involved with sensory trauma in vivo and in vitro models.

DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

OD, MD or PhD degree from an accredited college/university, Master level candidate with multiple publications as first author and principle investigator will also be considered qualified.

  • Secret Clearance
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA.
