The Fire Sprinkler Technician 1 is responsible for conducting inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems, life safety equipment, and fire extinguishers. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety and protection of lives and property by maintaining and verifying the functionality of these essential fire safety systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inspection and Testing:
    • Perform inspection, testing of fire pumps, wet systems, dry systems, tamper switches, water-flow devices, and hydrants.
    • Performs routine maintenance and inspects fire extinguisher equipment.
    • Perform periodic inspections and tests of the fire suppression systems.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Conduct maintenance and repairs on life safety equipment, sprinkler heads, pipes, and valves as needed.
    • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on fire alarm systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Recharge fire extinguishers and replace components that have exceeded their service life.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain meticulous records of inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and any identified issues.
    • Generate detailed inspection and testing reports for clients, regulatory authorities, and internal records.
    • Provide recommendations and cost estimates for necessary repairs or replacements.
  4. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all work is conducted in strict compliance with local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations.
    • Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Stay updated on industry developments and changes in safety codes and standards.
  5. Client Relations:
    • Interact professionally with clients, addressing their inquiries and concerns.
    • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive client relationships.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (additional relevant certifications or vocational training is a plus).
  • NICET I in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems or ability to pass exam within 90 days of employment or
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in fire alarm systems, life safety equipment, and fire suppression systems testing and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with various types of fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and life safety equipment.
  • Proficiency in using testing equipment and tools.

Physical and Personal Requirements

  • Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
  • Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Work at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  • Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Work overtime as directed by supervisor.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass random drug screening.
  • Must consistently report to work on time, work well with other employees to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting including researching online, system manuals to resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 25, OSHA Requirements and Standards for Fire Protection systems installation
  • Must have an excellent safety record, a valid driver's license, and clean driving record to meet corporate eligibility requirements to drive a company owned vehicle.
  • This position has been identified as requiring an additional client background check.
