LOCATIONS: Christos Gilbert (part-time) and Christos Phoenix (part-time)

Through the use of consultation, resource, and inclusion models in a variety of academic environments, the Special Education team aims to provide support for students while working to ensure as much time as appropriate is spent within the general classroom.

The Special Education Teaching Assistant position is at the Christos Gilbert campus and will play an important role in supporting the Special Education team to provide access to Christos’ Christian, classical education to all families who want it for their children.

This position provided support to the Special Education team in providing individual programs of service to students with ILPs. This may include providing support to specific students in or out of both general and special education settings, assisting in the adaption or modification of curricular materials, and providing administrative or clerical support to the Special Education team.

 Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to the following:

Instructional Support Services

·        Prior in classroom support for students with disabilities

·        Implement support s and services as outlined in student ILPs  

·        Curricular material adaptation and modification  

·        Maintain strict confidentiality of all Special Education evaluations , ILPs, and any other student information  

 

Organizational Management

·        Follow a set schedule of activities and responsibilities  

·        Be flexible as these schedules and activities may change due to student need  

 

The Special Education Teaching Assistant Role in Student Achievement  

·        Work collaboratively with teachers and the Special Education team in the creation of a supportive school environment that meets the academic and developmental needs of all students .  

·        Work alongside teachers and school administrators in the creation of a school climate and culture that effectively manages student behavior in the pursuit of the habits of virtue and in accordance with the code of conduct.  

Qualifications, Competencies, and Strengths

  • 1 year of special education experience, preferred
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of Great Hearts Christos, including, without limitation, publicly supporting the mission and committing to instilling Christian beliefs in Great Hearts Christos scholars.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently and as part of a team, in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; oriented towards detail, thoroughness, and accuracy.
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members and constituents.

Additional Requirements

  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
  • Travel: May need to travel across the Phoenix region.
