POSITION: ESS Interventionist

The ESS Interventionist plans, prepares, and provides specially designed instruction to students with IEPs in the academic areas related to their IEP goals, under the supervision of a certified special education teacher. These academic areas are generally limited to English Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Grammar, Conventions, etc.) and Math, but could include goals in other areas.
The ESS Interventionist also assesses and tracks student progress on the skills of which they are providing instruction.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lesson plan for learning activities that align with individual student IEP goals (e.g. Specially Designed Instruction)
- Provide one-on-one or small group reading, writing or math specially designed instruction for students with IEPs based on IEP goals
- Monitor and track student progress towards IEP goals.
- Provide progress monitoring data to the certified special education teacher
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and special educators to assist in the implementation of accommodations/modifications in the general education classroom
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Appropriately Trained in at least one subject area(s) of instruction such as either holding a certification or endorsement in a subject area or other documentation of subject knowledge proficiency
- Certifications (if any required): None
- Experience: K-5 or 6-12 teaching experience in math and English Language Arts
- Strong knowledge of research-based math and literacy instructional and intervention strategies
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities
Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths:
- Appropriately trained in subject area(s) of math, reading, writing, or English Language Arts
- Experience with Guided Reading, Benchmark assessments, progress monitoring and small-group, adult-led instruction required
- Experience with Singapore Math program strongly preferred
- Training in Spalding Phonics and other reading intervention programs is a great bonus
- Able to collaborate with many general education teachers and special education teachers
- Able to manage a flexible schedule and work with students in various grade levels in reading, writing, math and sometimes social skill development as necessary

- Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
