ALLETE is seeking a Senior Accounting Analyst to provide technical accounting expertise and leadership across our regulated utility and non-regulated business operations. This role will partner with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives, financial planning, and budgeting while ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will bring deep accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to mentor team members in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, work direction, and advanced technical accounting or analytical expertise.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze accounting and financial data reports and processes for ALLETE and its affiliates.
  • Participate in and support accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting close cycles.
  • Collect and analyze a variety of financial data for capital projects in order to perform account reconciliations, complete accounting journal entries, prepare budgets, and provide reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, including generally accepted accounting principles, government regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, maintenance, and documentation of new and existing accounting or financial planning systems.
  • Deliver accounting, analytical, or regulatory support for regulated and non-regulated business entities and affiliates.
  • Serve as a team member on corporate and business unit financial and tax strategy planning projects.
  • Offer leadership and technical expertise to due diligence teams, assisting in the implementation of business unit and corporate strategic initiatives. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
    • While an accounting degree is strongly preferred, candidates with an equivalent degree and applicable accounting coursework may be considered.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven years or more of progressively responsible job-related accounting experience. 
    • Equivalent experience that includes serving in a managerial/supervisory role may be considered.
    • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or a Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration will be considered for up to one year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills to establish and maintain relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $82,000 - $102,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
