POSITION: Janitor/Campus Security Officer (CSO)

DEPARTMENT:

LOCATION: Christos Phoenix (1 opening) and Christos Gilbert (1 opening)

REPORTS TO: Toyin Atolagbe

EEO Classification: Service Worker

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt - $20.00

 

Position Summary

The Janitor/Campus Security Officer will work towards cleaning and maintenance goals, along with, company objectives to provide armed security for the campus, as part of our academies’ overall campus safety plan. The main point of contact on campus is the Executive Director.

Duties & Responsibilities of CSO

The main responsibilities of the CSO are to:

  • Prevent any intruder from entering the interior of the campus or inflicting injury to any of students or staff at their respective Great Hearts school.
  • Address any threat involving a weapon on the school campus

The CSO will assist the school in escorting any person off campus who is posing a possible threat.

In the event that a student or staff member may have a weapon on campus, the CSO will help staff relocate the student or staff to safe location while the matter is addresses.

The CSO will assist the Safety Coordinator in the planning and conducting of safety trainings and drills

The CSO will assist the school threat assessment team upon the headmaster’s request in matters pertaining to possible violent acts towards students or staff

The CSO will complete his/her daily duties, including, but not limited to:

  • Arrive before drop-off in the morning, walk the perimeter of the school, check doors and gates, and investigate any spaces where items could be hidden
  • Monitor drop off, rotating between the Archway and Prep buildings
  • Walk the perimeter again after drop-off to make sure no doors are propped and ensure there are no changes in the facility from the walk prior
  • Check in with the Safety Coordinator and front office team to find out if there are any issues of note
  • After drop-off, monitor the inside of the school, observe the locker areas, walk and monitor the courtyard (if the school has this area), and check the playgrounds
  • Monitor lunch vendor drops offs while the door is propped for delivery
  • Walk through the lunchrooms, play areas, and fields during lunch
  • Conduct another perimeter check after lunches
  • Continue to walk the halls
  • Monitor outdoors during pick-up for both academies

The CSO will report any student behavior of concern to the executive director or designee during scheduled meetings or immediately in the case of urgent matters, e.g. student fights

Duties & Responsibilities of Janitor

Act as the primary contact for local personnel for any building and maintenance issues. May include regular building and maintenance items, moving furniture, cleaning and restocking supply rooms, organizing equipment or supplies, maintain janitorial work areas.

 

May need to repair locks, doors, gates and other egress related equipment or hardware.

 

Attend department meetings as scheduled.

 

Cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms and common areas:

  • Sanitizing bathrooms
  • Cleaning mirrors and windows
  • Order cleaning supplies
  • Vacuuming carpets
  • Disinfect surfaces
  • Empty trash receptacles/trash disposal

 

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

Education/Certification: HS Diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred, Armed guard card.

Special Skills:

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess the ability to work in conjunction with internal and external partners.
  • Be a self-starter with a heart of service and a strong sense of drive and urgency to meet established goals.

 

Additional Requirements

Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card.

Must possess a valid AZDPS Armed Guard Card.

Equipment used: May need to possess basic tools to perform duties. Specialty tools with be provided.

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May work in confined spaces and on top of buildings or structures. Will be exposed to inclement weather. May be required to move or position equipment up to 100 pounds approximately.
