About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Claims - Bermuda, you will work closely with the Actuarial, Underwriting and Middle Office/Operations teams of the company. This role will be responsible for assisting the Head of Claims with the management of the claim’s portfolio for all classes of business underwritten by the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily claim activities across a variety of classes of business, including the prompt payment of claim settlements and setting of reserves.
  • Examine and adjust new and existing claims, including the review of contractual wordings to assess coverage and quantum of exposure and ensure professional communications about claims with all relevant internal/external stakeholders.
  • Arrange client contacts to discuss claims development, current claims trends and issues, develop and maintain relationships, where appropriate and necessary.
  • Attend re-insurers claims audits where appropriate and prepare comprehensive reports
  • Promote strategic objectives for the claims function while ensuring compliance with internal corporate guidelines, processes, and procedures. This will include familiarity with the J-SOX compliance framework and    assisting with the quarterly risk control attestation cycle.
  • Assist the local Head of Claims with the quarterly reserving process while working closely with the Underwriting and Actuarial functions.
  • Evaluate actual and potential liability exposures and recommend accurate and timely reserves/IBNR.
  • Collaborate with different functions across the company to provide periodic updates on claims including industry trends and developments.
  • Assist with the monthly claim reporting process for management among other ad hoc reporting requirements.
  • Team management support including assistance with annual Personal Development Reviews.
  • Use analytics and insights from a claims handling perspective to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years claims handling experience within the re/insurance industry.
  • Extensive experience with and in-depth knowledge of technical reinsurance claims handling.
  • A University/College degree in a business or legal discipline is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of property, casualty, and specialty reinsurance lines of business.
  • Solid understanding of re/insurance contract terms and structures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications together with a proven track record of attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
  • Highly collaborative team player, with the ability to use initiative and self-manage whilst being able to work effectively in a team environment.
