Morrison Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 18 offices worldwide, has an opening for a Business Development Coordinator or Assistant within our Marketing Department in our Boston , New York  or  Washington, D.C. office.

The Opportunity 

Guided by department objectives and priorities, works closely with practice groups and business development managers to coordinate and execute on business development plans and materials for the Privacy + Data Security, Crisis Management, and Congressional Investigations practices. The candidate will work collaboratively with others within the Marketing and Business Development team and other Business Services groups. Independently able to do the following: prepares, updates, and creates marketing and business development collateral. Able to prepare and/or produce customized pitches/RFPs, webinars, podcasts, presentations, and assist in the planning marketing events. Researches and provides input into targeted marketing methods including social media analytics and strategies, CLE seminars, organizational affiliations, and initiatives. Ensures meticulous execution of all projects and work, with data and content consistently accurate and well presented. Attains synergies through effective collaboration. Ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of the position. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Business Development Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with business development managers, providing substantive, “right hand” assistance in executing on business development plans. Apply understanding of plans, including their strategic objectives and practice group-specific needs, preferences, and industry standards. 
  • Proactively make recommendations and improvements, taking full ownership over assignments.
  • Edit, update, draft and maintain practice group marketing materials, including practice group descriptions, attorney biographies, and content for the website.  Draft new collateral as requested.
  • Be able to independently prepare pitches and RFPs, including research, preparing collateral, and assembling materials. Coordinate closely with Marketing Pitch Hub for all cross-practice pitches to ensure end result is accurate and thoroughly prepared. Assist in tracking results and preparing responsive reports and analyses incorporating recommendations for increasing effectiveness.
  • Create dynamic PowerPoint presentations for partner pitches and internal communications.
  • Strong grasp of Salesforce, and knowledgeable in data analytics, web design and content creation from a marketing perspective.
  • Provide requested research using Firm and online tools to develop intelligence on prospective targets, industries, markets, etc. 
  • Coordinate and provide supporting research for speaking and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Participate in the production and presentation of client development seminars.  Coordinate details, processes, communications, arrangements, etc. through all stages of development and implementation as needed. Analyze data resulting from client development seminars and provide summaries and recommendations to support business development plans.
  • Lead and participate in completing timely submissions to directories and ranking authorities, ensure rankings in preferred publications, such as Chambers & Partners, are maximized.
  • Participate in keeping databases current for assigned Business Development Practice Groups.
  • Submit expenses charged to Business Development group - Privacy + Data Security and Crisis Management marketing budgets.

Collaborate with Marketing Managers and Staff

  • Identify improvement opportunities through collecting and proactively sharing information with business development managers and the Marketing team..
  • Collaborate closely with managers and staff in all areas of Marketing to ensure strong intra-departmental communication, client service, and seamless deployment of marketing programs.  Develop effective relationships with other offices to facilitate business development and marketing events and services.
  • Develop supportive relationships with offices where practice group attorneys are located, and ensure that business development and marketing support is collaboratively provided.

  • Consistently promote and model the Firm's Client Service Principles in leadership, teamwork, work product, and personal interaction.
  • Ensure compliance with the Firm's Information Handling Policy, including safeguarding confidential and personal information, and reporting any suspected breach appropriately and immediately.
  • Adhere to the Firm's General Safety Practices and any unique safety practices for department and building.

Ideal Candidate       

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or related field. Two years of relevant experience in professional services marketing; law firm experience preferred.
  • Hybrid.

  • High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent writing skills. Ability to prepare focused and specialized written materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills in all areas, including presentation, writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills: ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines. Ability to follow essential instructions.
  • Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work. 
  • Flexibility and willingness to work hours needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to keep confidential any information, observations, or viewpoints regarding firm business matters.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Knowledge of Salesforce and social media preferred.

Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications

New York salary range: $55k- $81k
