Morrison Foerster LLP, an Am Law 50 law firm with 18 offices worldwide, has an opening for a Senior Public Relations Manager within our Marketing Department. This role can be based in Boston, New York or Washington, D.C. 

The Opportunity 

The Senior Public Relations Manager develops and manages public relations strategies to build further visibility in the U.S. for the firm’s premier Litigation practices, relevant industries, and lawyers. Priority practices include the IP Litigation, Privacy & Data Security, Investigations & White Collar Defense, Securities Litigation, National Security, and Appellate groups, as well as PR support for the firm’s pro bono, D+I and MoFo Foundation/charitable initiatives, and other strategic cross-departmental campaigns and projects. This individual regularly works with Litigation Department leaders and partners, to provide ongoing publicity and reputation management strategies and manage execution of programs and initiatives to achieve these objectives. 

  • Accountable for obtaining placements in appropriate media outlets, based on strategic plans and reactive opportunities, that will raise visibility of the firm and its practice areas and partners in the media.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with appropriate press contacts at relevant national, trade, legal, and business publications.
  • Lead the oversight of our outside PR agency.
  • Identify additional opportunities to elevate the firm’s profile in regions aligned with the firm’s strategic priorities, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, D.C., Austin, and New York, among others.
  • Develop effective relationships with partners in and outside our premier Litigation practices earning their trust and respect, including the firm’s leadership team.
  • Prepare partners for media interviews and actively participate in meetings with key reporters.
  • Write communication materials such as press releases, media pitches, media talking points, bylined article abstracts, pre-briefing documents, etc.
  • Provide coaching and management to more junior members of the PR team.
  • Interface with Business Development and partners to identify industry trends, deal and case information, and newsworthy client work that we can promote.
  • Analyze and report back on results of PR campaigns, using the information to determine appropriate strategic adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the U.S. and global PR/communications team to help us maximize opportunities and ensure consistency of messaging.
  • Support strategy and content development for internal and crisis management scenarios.

Ideal Candidate       

  • BA/BS degree required.
  • 7-10 years of public relations and/or media relations experience.
  • Prior experience in legal PR, either at a firm or on the agency side.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape.
  • Experience in developing and successfully executing PR and communications plans; experience with social media and content marketing a plus.
  • Strong news sense and understanding of what it takes to generate impactful media coverage.
  • Comfortable interacting with and counseling senior-level partners and employees.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and exceptional writing abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to successfully prioritize multiple demands and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Self-starter approach with an excellent work ethic and a positive, proactive style.

Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health/welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities/states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following: local market data and ranges; an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications.

New York, NY salary range: $147k to $219k
