About the role

We are excited to be recruiting a Sustainability Advisor to contribute to our impactful infrastructure team at Melbourne and Olympic Parks.  This is the first dedicated internal role vacancy in this space for M&OP and a genuinely amazing opportunity to advise and influence our Sustainability Action Plan and Practices.

Melbourne & Olympic Parks precinct is host to six premier venues, including Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena, AAMI Park, Kia Arena, and CENTREPIECE.  The precinct also includes professional sporting and administrative facilities, as well as recreational spaces such as the National Tennis Centre, Outdoor and Indoor Tennis Courts, Olympic Park Oval, and more.

Reporting to the Strategic Asset Manager as part of our broader Infrastructure team, this important role will play a pivotal role in shaping the way M&OP achieve their strategic goals and tackle initiatives that will impact the precinct’s future. Your solid experience to date in a similar role will have set you up as a trusted advisor and this role will enable you to take some further ownership of the sustainability landscape for the organization.   You’ll relish being able to balance your input to strategy, planning, and project initiatives, alongside your well-honed stakeholder relationship skills, as someone who is passionate and educated when it comes to advising on sustainability action plans and practices.

Here are some of the key things you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Prioritise and set key actions across M&OP’s three strategic pillars: Climate Change Mitigation & Resilience; Responsible Resource Consumption; and Resourcing & Engagement
  • Coordinate the continuous development and implementation of M&OP’s Sustainability Strategy that adheres to government requirements and aligns with science-based targets
  • Collate, monitor, and report on sustainability performance and practices across the organisation through managing data in the environmental management system
  • Identify opportunities, develop and submit a pipeline of projects and initiatives, and engage external stakeholders to enable M&OP to achieve its sustainability objectives
  • Take initiative to continuously engage with the sustainability industry for innovations and regulatory changes, whilst providing guidance to M&OP teams on best practice

About you

  • You’re likely working in a similar role but you’re seeking something different with a bit more ownership
  • A small team with a big impact sounds great to you;  you’re happy to contribute and collaborate to make a difference with like-minded people
  • You understand diverse environments and you’ve got a proven track record of positively impacting them through your work at a similar level
  • You have a holistic understanding of Sustainability frameworks and action planning and can cite examples where you’ve interpreted, planned and facilitated positive change
  • You’re proud of what you’ve done so far and want to continue, but you’re ready for somewhere new and M&OP sparks some passion in you as a workplace and environment

Experience – Essential

  • Knowledge of current environmental sustainability principles and methodologies relating to buildings and landscapes.
  • Experience within the facilities management or design and construction industries relating to environmental sustainability.
  • Demonstrated ability in researching, identifying and evaluating environmental sustainability opportunities, programs and projects.
