The Lundquist Institute is looking for a Nutritionist I, Special Nutrition Services (SNS) Dietitian to join our team. Successful applicants will be required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus prior to starting, unless an approved medical or religious exemption.            

Required Qualifications:

The Nutritionist I, SNS Dietitian must be a Registered Dietitian which requires:

  • Completion of an approved Dietetic Internship or equivalent experience
  • Passing the Commission on Dietetic Registration Board Exam
  • Maintaining current Dietetic Registration


In addition, the Registered Dietitian must have a:

  • Valid California driver’s license, proof of personal auto insurance and dependable personal transportation with current California registration


Required Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of maternal and child health (MCH) and nutrition
  • Understanding of nutrition as it relates to diet and disease.
  • Strong familiarity with WIC Program regulations, policies, and procedures, including competency in WIC WISE and other work-related computer skills.
  • Excellent teaching, counseling and culturally competent skills and abilities
  • Willingness to become proficient in basic conversational Spanish.


Description of Duties:

•   Performs nutritional and breastfeeding risk assessment and follow-up, individual education,  and breastfeeding support for WIC low-risk and high-risk women, infants, and children utilizing motivational interviewing and other participant centered education techniques as appropriate

  • Documents care plans, assessment data, follow up notes and referrals in WIC WISE
  • Conducts group nutrition, breastfeeding, and health education activities
  • Reinforces Medical Nutrition therapy when made available by health care providers
  • Consults with physicians, WIC Lactation Consultants or other health professionals about SNS participants concerns involving health care needs, breastfeeding and/or therapeutic formula
  • Conducts presentations to WIC staff on a variety of program and MCH related topics
  • Responsible for other tasks as assigned to support WIC Program site operations
