ABOUT THE ROLE

The Business Development (BD) & Marketing Manager works closely with the partners and BD team to develop and sustain a loyal client base.  

  • Proactively track and monitor key client relationships.

  • Partner with attorneys to plan and execute business development-related client meetings and business travel, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Research and identify opportunities for promoting and cross selling. 

  • Conduct research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships, expand the client base, and increase external and internal visibility. 

  • Execute on targeted marketing initiatives including communications & social media strategies, client events and organizational affiliations.  

  • Develop customized pitches/RFPs, client presentations, and marketing materials. 

  • Attain synergies for BD & marketing efforts through effective collaboration and ensures client service and satisfaction are front of mind in all areas of the position. 

  • Build a strong working relationship with the Tokyo BD & Marketing team, managing your direct reports to get the very best results. Coach and mentor to ensure continued growth and progress in their roles.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

  • Fluent in Japanese and English, with strong writing & communication skills.

  • Seven or more years of professional services BD and/or marketing experience; law firm experience highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch responses. 

  • High degree of motivation, with a driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.

  • Excellent writing skills in both Japanese and English.  Ability to focus written materials to ensure a strong impact on the targeted audience.

  • Strong business acumen: the ability to recognize BD & marketing opportunities and to pursue them strategically.

  • Excellent attention to detail in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.

  • Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.

  • Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work.
