Systems Administrator - Industrial Automation / Process Control (Managed Service Provider) – Onsite to Hybrid – Chesterfield, MO (Greater St. Louis Area)

What does the Experitec Systems Administrator do?

The Systems Administrator, as part of our Engineering Services team, works with the team to install and maintain control systems as part of process control projects. This includes system hardware design, software installation, network design, Windows system administration, virtualization, cyber security, 3rd party interfaces, data integration, and backup and recovery solutions. Systems Administrators work to establish strong relationships with Experitec’s customers. Through these relationships, our Systems Administrators work directly with plant operations, process engineering, maintenance, customer IT personnel, and technical support to identify and address areas of improvement within our customers’ facilities.

This position is part of our Operational Technology (OT) team within Engineering Services with the specific title of Operational Technology Engineer.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree OR associate degree with two or more years of relevant experience OR high school diploma with five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Education or relevant work experience in Information Technology, Networking, Engineering, Electronics, Computers and/or similar designation.
  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in administration of Windows Server environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining virtual environments.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to clearly communicate status updates to project managers and customers.
  • Ability to drive for the company with a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass driving record background check.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle for the majority of work travel AND ability to rent a car when requested by supervisor for work travel.
  • Ability to independently travel locally up to 70% of the time at customer sites returning home at end of day AND up to 20% overnight travel with hotel stay(s). Including evening and weekend shifts occasionally. Flexibility to travel with little notice to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing and data center environments with shifting and extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate for potential environmental hazards.

Preferred Skills, Experience & Abilities:

  • Track record of two or more years of success building Windows domains that address diverse system needs.
  • Three or more years of experience utilizing VMWare and/or Hyper V to build and maintain virtual environments.
  • Three or more years of experience working closely with project managers and customers to communicate status updates, resolve challenges and maintain alignment on project deliverables.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing technical strategies, driving innovation, and building cross-functional partnerships to solve business and technical problems.
  • Three or more years of customer-centric work experience demonstrating record of identifying customer needs, prioritizing resources, and implementing timely and sustainable solutions.
  • Experience communicating at a high level in written, oral, and presentation formats to and present results to both technical and non-technical audiences and relate to business impact.

Opportunities to make an Impact:

The Systems Administrator will make an impact through scheduled system maintenance, system design, system & network troubleshooting, interfacing with customer IT & OT teams, and addressing process control issues while working on customer sites. The primary goal of the Systems Administrator is to deliver quality solutions and services to customers using the technologies provided by Emerson, including, DeltaV, DeltaV SIS, Asset Management Systems (AMS), and other solutions.

In addition to system upgrades and maintenance responsibilities, the Systems Administrator is responsible for:

  • Active Directory/DNS configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Virtualization environment design, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Support digital transformation initiatives.
  • Design and support of Wireless Ethernet systems.
  • Performing process control equipment installation and startup.
  • Proactively learning to apply new automation products on a regular basis.
  • Maintaining a positive customer relationship to identify additional system and service opportunities.
  • Achieving technical knowledge of the products and services we deploy at the customer site.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Windows-based system design, build, and administration.
  • Troubleshoot Windows and Emerson system issues.
  • Develop and implement control system, backup and recovery, and cybersecurity systems design.
  • Perform engineering and design studies.
  • Automation system project management and project administration.
