GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:  To create and monitor the Quality Control Program for CRL’s laboratories with the exception of the Toxicology laboratory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Maintain accreditation with HCFA, CAP, and various State Regulators through a thorough QC Program.
  • Work with Quality Management Systems group to renew accreditation licensing.
  • Participate in CAP and New York State audits.
  • Order, receive, distribute, and report all external proficiency samples. Perform investigation for failed proficiency testing events.
  • Research and order alternate proficiency material for the tests where commercial material is not available.
  • Coordinate all follow up corrective action with formal documentation to appropriate regulatory and state agencies.
  • Coordinate Continuing Education for laboratory personnel.
  • Assist Laboratory in maintaining training records.
  • Review and archive assigned Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Work with laboratory personnel and supervisors to coordinate validations and verifications of all new assays.
  • Coordinate and oversee all mandatory duties regulated by CAP (i.e. pipet calibrations, instrumentation and personnel competency).
  • Maintain quality control records of laboratory instrument performance and patient data.
  • Monitor periodic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Administer the Refrigerator/Freezer Temperature Monitoring Program (Datatron).
  • Administer the Water Monitoring Program.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL, CRL subsidiaries, legal entities and client information.
  • Be able to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:  Bachelor of Science (Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology) or MLT with equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:  2 years experience in a clinical laboratory environment

SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Self-starter
  • Organized, detail-oriented, ability to work   independently
  • Must have good PC skills and be proficient in Excel and Word
  • Good communication skills and ability to understand new technology, methods, and laboratory tests
  • Ability to be at work and on time
  • Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients and management

EQUIPMENT:  Personal computer, laboratory coat, laboratory safety equipment as necessary

OTHER:  Occasional handling of blood\urine for specimen preparation/analysis; specimens consist of body fluids and must be regarded as potentially infectious. Overtime and weekend work as necessary.
