The Taunton Press is seeking an accomplished Editorial Director to head up the Fine Homebuilding brand, a growing and diverse media business serving the residential home improvement and construction market. The position reports to the CEO.

The Editorial Director develops and manages the brand and content strategy to drive customer engagement, growth, and positive experiences across all brand platforms. The Editorial Director leads the editorial team, managing content across all publishing channels, and collaborates with the advertising and marketing teams to develop and execute product experiences that support revenue drivers and deliver business goals.

This individual is a dynamic leader and collaborator who is well-versed in the residential construction market. The Editorial Director navigates the nuances of a hybrid consumer-B2B media brand with a diverse revenue strategy of paid content products (digital access and magazine subscriptions), robust content marketing programs for advertising partners, and emerging digital and in-person learning events. The Editorial Director will oversee the entire Fine Homebuilding brand footprint, including an 8-issue yearly magazine, quarterly newsstand specials, weekly podcasts, the Fine Homebuilding website, the Green Building Advisor website, daily and weekly email products, the Keep Craft Alive philanthropic mission, and multiple video, print, and social content engagement programs for advertising partners.


  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, accuracy, quality, and tone of voice, and optimized for a premium user experience for all channels including web, social, email, mobile, video, print, and in-person.
  • Devise a content strategy that supports and extends brand initiatives, both short- and long-term.
  • Develop a functional workflow and publishing process for content creation, distribution, and repurposing across the brand channels, and oversee the Fine Homebuilding content managers within each channel (Video, Print, Web, Social).
  • Interpret ongoing content effectiveness data to make meaningful strategy adjustments. Continue the development of qualitative and quantitative data-gathering practices to make impactful brand and content recommendations.
  • Work with technical and product teams to implement appropriate improvements to digital properties based on needs of digital content teams and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with advertising sales team to develop integrated programs for advertising clients across brand channels and contribute to the development and integration of editorial content within brand marketing/advertising campaigns.
  • With the collaboration of consumer marketing, product, and content teams, manage the membership experience and develop processes that deliver content that supports the brand promise and business objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience leading editorial teams
  • Multimedia experience including print, web, video, social, and virtual and live events
  • Deep understanding of how audience drivers and marketing channels work hand in hand with content
  • Ability to collaborate across all areas of the business—editorial, sales, marketing, and product—to achieve business objectives
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively manage staff
  • Experience mentoring and developing writers, videographers, and editors to high achievement levels
