Content Editor, Fine Gardening

Fine Gardening is the leading source of inspiration and information for passionate gardeners, horticulturists and landscape designers interested in plants, planning, techniques, and science-based insight to the green world. We are looking for a dynamic, multimedia editor with experience and knowledge of horticulture and gardening who can contribute to all areas of our content line-up, including print, website, videos, social media, and more. In addition to subject-matter expertise, the ideal candidate is a self-starter who shares our passion for creating engaging, accurate, and thought-leading content in new and exciting ways. This person must be deadline oriented and able to handle multiple tasks across various platforms as well as adjust quickly to changing market trends and/or audience needs.

The Fine Gardening Content Editor works with authors, our art department, and our digital team to create engaging content—in print and online. This person will be the main facilitator in finding authors/experts for an array of topics then moving that content from raw manuscript to layout. They will ensure that all content drives engagement, retention, growth, and positive customer experiences. The Content Editor must also be a creative influence behind video, social media, and other online content.


  • Regularly pitching audience-appropriate feature ideas covering topics from horticulture, garden design, botanical science, how-to techniques, tools and materials, and more
  • Developing, writing, and editing assigned feature and department content for our print magazines and website
  • Producing video and writing video scripts
  • Traveling to gardens to shoot and/or coordinate photos/videos
  • Building and managing a team of expert contributors and freelance journalists
  • Traveling to attend brand-related events and meet with authors and horticulture industry contacts
  • Creating content for social media
  • Producing and participating in podcasts, webinars, and live events as needed


  • At least two years of experience in creating content across a variety of media, including print, web, and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with the fields of horticulture and landscape design
  • Strong writer and editor
  • Well organized, creative, and adept problem-solver
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight on a strict schedule
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms
  • Basic understanding of SEO, Google Trends, and keyword optimization
  • Familiarity with WordPress, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint, and Zoom
  • Contacts within the horticulture industry in North America is ideal
