Civic Engagement Director
We believe a better LA County--a better world--is possible.
LA Voice believes all people have power and a voice. Every day we amplify that power by uniting diverse faith voices and equipping grassroots leaders to stand up for what their communities need, winning systemic changes that improve the lives of all of us, especially those most impacted by poverty and racism. We are a multi-faith, multi-racial, multi-lingual organization of 55 churches, synagogues, and mosques that represent more than 70,000 families in Los Angeles County. LA Voice has a two-decade track record of winning significant systemic changes on issues affecting poor people and BIPOC communities. (See our Facebook page L.A. Voice or website www.lavoice.org). LA Voice is a member of PICO California and Faith in Action National Network, the largest grassroots spiritual and congregational organizing network in the U.S.
LA Voice Action, LA Voice’s 501 c (4) affiliate organization, was founded in 2018 with a mission to turn the power of faith voices in Los Angeles County into transformative wins for our communities. To achieve this, we carry out deep, year-round voter engagement efforts that are building a powerful, faithful voting bloc that turns out in every single election, no matter how large or small.
Together, LA Voice and LA Voice Action have a track record of effective and data-driven voter engagement that builds power for our communities.
Through LA Voice’s 100% Voting Congregations program, LA Voice’s member congregations aim to reach 100% citizenship, registration, and voter participation. Grassroots leaders build relationships and turn out voters in their own congregations and neighborhoods, using data from the voter file and membership lists to track progress. We have also led the field in supporting the leadership of justice-system impacted voters through hiring justice-system impacted leaders to run paid phone banks and registering over 1000 formerly incarcerated individuals to vote in 2020 alone. Between volunteers and paid staff, LA Voice spoke one or more times with 152,000 voters in 2021.
Since LA Voice Action’s founding, we have contributed to major electoral victories and ballot measure campaigns, engaging 307,000 voters in 2021. Our work has also contributed, through Independent Expenditure Committees, to the successful elections of Holly Mitchell to County Supervisor and George Gascon to District Attorney.
LA Voice is expanding our Civic Engagement team, recruiting for the positions of Civic Engagement Director, Lead Civic Engagement Organizer, and Civic Engagement Organizer. Please visit www.lavoice.org/hiring for an overview of all three positions.
The Civic Engagement Director is a senior-level leader whose role is to build LA Voice and LA Voice Action’s short and long-term power through strategic growth of our voting bloc and integration of strategies to increase civic influence toward racial equity. This body of work includes year-round integrated voter engagement campaigns, campaigns focused on passing specific ballot measures, and electoral campaigns via LA Voice Action.
The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience with civic engagement campaigns and a track record of increasing voter turnout through strategic volunteer and paid voter engagement. The Civic Engagement Director leads the Civic Engagement Team and works closely with the Organizing team to build organizing capacity across both LA Voice and LA Voice Action.
