FTS has opportunities for Fault Management Engineers in the Washington Metro Area (WMA).


The Fault Management Engineer will be an integral participant in subsystem architecture, requirements development and verification, and unit design of the fault management subsystem



  • Support the customer in the design, integration and test of the spacecraft FM subsystem
  • Provide expert advice concerning subsystem development to the Fault Management Subsystem customer
  • Review and coordinate on all changes to specifications, ICDs and system level requirements documentation that affect the FM subsystem
  • Review subsystem, unit and manufacturing specifications for accuracy and ensure requirement allocation documentation is complete, accurate, and adequately addresses fault management, fault tolerance, and reliability
  • Track development issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates to the customer
  • Support as directed unit, subsystem, system level design reviews, and program management reviews
  • Provide expert advice/analysis on FM considerations for new satellite/payload developments
  • Coordinate with spacecraft bus development POC, subsystem leads, branch chiefs and division chiefs
  • Provide support to launch and satellite on-orbit test as required by the customer
  • Attend Vehicle Engineering branch meetings as appropriate at the request of the customer
  • Attend contractor gate reviews, pre-test, pre-ship and other meetings as required
  • Other duties as specified by the customer


Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Top Secret/SCI with polygraph
  • Bachelors degree in engineering discipline (preferred) or equivalent experience
  • 3-5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Development and test of spacecraft onboard computer hardware and software
  • Familiarity with 1553 data bus architecture/protocol
  • Ability to travel domestically


Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment
  • Experience in DOD/IC acquisition and program management processes
  • Experience with various orbital regimes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated sustained superior performance
