Job Duties:
The City is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its Chief Facilities Officer. This executive-level position is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of more than 600 municipal facilities and related infrastructure assets. Reporting directly to the City Manager or designee, this role leads the planning, development, operation, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of City-owned buildings to ensure they are safe, efficient, sustainable, and aligned with the City’s operational priorities and future growth.
The Chief Facilities Officer will oversee a workforce of more than 200 employees and serve as a trusted advisor on capital improvement planning, facility investments, construction management, asset lifecycle strategies, and organizational performance. Preferences:
• Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, public works, or management of large capital projects that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities for the position.
• A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering management, business management or public administration discipline and at least five (5) years of progressive senior level management experience in a large public works organization.
• Significant experience managing large, complex facilities portfolios and capital programs.
• Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary teams.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA)
• Certifications in project management.
• Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or similar credential.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented executive with extensive experience leading large-scale facilities operations, capital improvement programs, and multidisciplinary teams within a complex public or private sector environment. The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership and organizational skills with the ability to balance long-term strategic planning with day-to-day operational excellence. They will be an effective communicator and relationship builder who can work collaboratively with elected officials, executive leadership, department directors, contractors, consultants, and community stakeholders. Experience managing large, diverse facility portfolios and overseeing complex construction and maintenance operations is highly desirable.
Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
