Come join the Stormwater Engineering Center for an exciting opportunity to be part of the team delivering the Flood Protection Program for the City of Virginia Beach. The position may be classified as an Engineer I, Engineer II or Engineer III depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
The selected candidate will work in the Stormwater Technical Services section of the Stormwater Engineering Center in the Department of Public Works. The individual will perform a variety of duties of a complex nature related to stormwater civil engineering projects. Representative work duties include but are not limited to:
Manage design and construction of Flood Protection Projects

Minimum Requirements:
Engineer I Minimums: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field, or an Associate’s Degree with six (6) years of progressive experience of engineering level work. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Engineer II Minimums: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Engineer III Minimums: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
• Project management experience demonstrating the ability to manage multiple-project workload
• Experience in Stormwater Modeling Design
• Experience with EPA SWMM
• Experience in ArcGIS
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• Experience in planning, presentations and overall project development for a variety of projects
• Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic stormwater design calculations
• Experience in coordinating with Federal, State, and Local agencies

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
