Job Duties:

The Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development drives economic vitality and inclusive prosperity in the city by fostering the attraction and creation of new investment, innovation, and jobs. We are seeking a Business Development Representative to perform the following:

Develop a recruitment strategy that works in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development and the Convention and Visitors Bureau's attraction efforts.

Develop a draft marketing plan which leverages the Department of Economic Development and the Convention and Visitors Bureau's marketing strategies.

Extensive travel to conferences and tradeshows representing the Department of Economic Development and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Identify international companies and firms to recruit for the Department of Economic Development and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Identify local firms to partner with to identify national and international firms for recruitment efforts.

Develop a database of companies that can be recruited from conference and relocation efforts.

Compile company list based on the business sector.

Conduct research to compose reports requiring in-depth business knowledge for managers

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as Administrative Aide or Assistant, Real Estate Agent, Insurance Agent, Civil Engineer, Marketing or Sales Agent. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Ability to obtain a passport.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Relations, or a related field
Business development or convention sales experience
Experience developing and maintaining business relationships
Experience in a municipal government environment
Experience writing effective introduction documents
Experience creating a strategic marketing plan
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite and familiar with CRM or Salesforce
Conducted research and analysis to compose reports requiring in-depth business knowledge for managers

Special Instructions:

Ability to extensively travel domestically and internationally to conferences and tradeshows.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
