Job Duties:
Public Works Facilities Engineer
The Public Works Facilities Engineer provides strategic direction and management oversight of the of the Facilities Engineering Group. As a City Manager appointee, this position serves at the pleasure of the City Manager and is not considered part of the merit service as defined in City Code, section 2-75.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS:
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to twelve (12) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as Assistant City/Chief Engineer, Principal Engineer, Project Engineer, or Facilities Manager.
Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).
Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Alpha I Status: Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term departmental needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
5 years progressive senior level management experience
Bachelor or Master's degree in architecture or a facilities engineering.
Facilities design, construction, and maintenance experience
Fiscal and budget management experience
Experience managing building Capital Improvement Programs (CIP)
Program and project management experience
Municipal pubic works experience
Skill in effective oral and written communication.
Skills in monitoring and assessing performance of the organization and developing effective strategies and solutions to complex problems
Skills in maintaining interpersonal relationships with positive outcomes through demonstrated effective experience in providing high level of customer service to citizenry.
Ability to effectively represent the department before City Council, public agencies, and civic organizations and other various boards.
Ability to manage and interact with a large diverse workforce
Ability to foster a problem-solving environment, exercise sound judgment, and implement collaborative decision making.
Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
