Job Duties:

Virginia Beach is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the 39th largest city in the U.S., Virginia Beach is recognized worldwide as one of the best places to live, work and do business. We are located on the beautiful Atlantic Ocean in the southeastern part of Virginia.

We are seeking a dynamic Administrative Specialist I to work with a team of professionals in the Human Resources Unit for the Library Dept.

ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST I

  • Provide Human Resource support to the Library Department
  • Coordinate job audits, reclassifications and career progressions for library positions
  • Provide guidance to supervisors on disciplinary issues; maintain confidential material and information
  • Coordinate related City policies and procedures within the department
  • Coordinate the hiring and recruiting process, conducts training
  •  Support staff training with developments efforts
  • Develop close working relationships with others both inside and outside the department and City
  • Respond to local and regional inquiries and surveys
  • Conduct research analysis, prepare and present informational and comprehensive reports
  • Develop successful working relationships with City’s HR, assist with development and coordination of the department’s workforce planning and development efforts
  • Serve on City and department teams

Perform other related work as assigned, requiring skills and knowledge as demanded by duties described or less based on the current workloads and department needs.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, such as business or public administration.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

A degree in Human Resource and/or related field
Certified HR professional; experience with human resource administration;
Experience working with InSITE or other integrated HRIS systems,
Evidence of experience in multiple priorities and project management; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion;
Experience working in a fast paced environment
Experience setting up and running virtual meetings
Experience working with diverse groups
Experience managing projects
Evidence of informational/comprehensive report writing
Proficient Microsoft Suites experience (Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Teams, Outlook)
Classifications experience
Evidence of staffing and hiring experience

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
