ENGINEER I/ENGINEER II

This position may be classified as an Engineer I or II depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant. The division is responsible for administration of the City's Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit. The primary duties will be to administer various programs such as stormwater infrastructure management and pollution prevention programs. Program management will include communications with other City Departments and citizens. This individual will perform a variety of engineering duties with direct oversite of an Engineer IV or higher level engineering positon. Representative work duties include but not limited to:

MINIMUMS:
ENGINEER I
Requires a Bachelors degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program, or an Associates Degree with six (6) years of progressive experience of engineering level work, or any combination of education and experience acceptable to and approved by, the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
ENGINEER II
Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program WITH possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate AND two (2) years of progressive professional experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
The successful candidate would have experience or pertinent coursework in:
- Municipal projects
- Stormwater design
- Water quality design and/or monitoring
- MS4 programs including but not limited to dry weather screening, illicit discharge investigations, industrial stormwater pollution prevention plans, stormwater infrastructure management and stormwater training
- Project management
- Stormwater and environmental permitting
- The candidate would also demonstrate the ability to utilize computer software (word processing, slide presentation, spreadsheet, database, GIS, Sharepoint) relating to data management and production, and effectively communicate through oral and written means.

Special Instructions:
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
