ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY
VIRGINIA BEACH CITY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
The Virginia Beach City Attorney’s Office is seeking a civil trial attorney with experience in state and federal courts and before administrative hearing officers and tribunals. Strong advocacy, research, and writing skills are required. Experience with handling workers’ compensation cases is preferred. Representative cases include personal injury defense, contract and real property litigation, cases arising under Title VII and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, appellate litigation, and workers’ compensation hearings. Salary range for this position is $71,926 - $109,054, plus City benefits. Salary commensurate with experience. Virginia State Bar membership required.
Active membership in good standing in the Virginia State Bar eligible to practice law in the State of Virginia and the Federal District Court, has a third year practice certificate and becomes an active member of the Virginia State Bar within six (6) months of hire, or is a member in good standing in an out-of-state Bar and becomes an active member of the Virginia State Bar within six (6) months of hire.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short term department needs and/or City wide emergencies.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
