Job Duties:

Psychiatrist - Pathways Center (Adults, Crisis/ Detoxification)

General Statement of Duties:

  • Provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to clients
  • Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Supervises medical staff
  • Consultation with medical staff
  • Assures that all submission of information into E.H.R. is done accurately and within time frame required
  • Develops/ reviews policies related to medical issues for Pathways Center
  • Other duties as determined by Senior Medical Director / Division Director
  • Provides after- hours coverage on a rotating basis

Specific Duties with qualitative and quantitative measures of performance

  • Provides psychiatric evaluations, document reports same day
  • Assess clients for appropriateness for admission and/ or discharge
  • Sees clients as needed for medication management, documents all medication orders
  • Participates in clinical staffings as needed
  • Authorizes Clinic Option Services as required by Medicaid
  • Provides clinical documentation and assures that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities required for the position

  • Treatment experience with a broad range of clinical populations, including SMI, Substance Using, Co-Occurring and Crisis
  • State of the art knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Able to successfully collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Community based program experience
  • Able to work successfully in a managed care environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical, clinical and support staff
  • Computer skills and ability to use electronic health record
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric and clinical practice

Specific Credentials (Licensure/Certification):

  • License to practice medicine in Virginia without restrictions
  • Current DEA number with no restrictions on prescribing controlled substances
  • Prefer Board certification in Adictionology

Minimum Qualifications: (Education/Experience/etc.):

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of accredited residency program in psychiatry
  • Board (ABMS) eligibility in psychiatry.  Board certification preferred
  • Eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid and other Third Party Reimbursement

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a Psychiatrist in the State of Virginia, possession of a Drug Enforcement Association (DEA) Certificate with no restrictions on prescribing controlled substances. Eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid, and other third party reimbursement. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience treating individuals with a wide range of diagnoses including but not limited to SMI and Dually Diagnosed populations, and emergency situations; experience with ASAM Placement Criteria; knowledge of recovery-based services and principles; knowledgeable regarding evidence based practices. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. May be required to drive to off-site meetings.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
