Position: Imaging Equipment Technician, Intermediate Level

JOB SUMMARY:

To perform inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of imaging equipment

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates and understands basic test equipment, such as focal spot test tools, tomography test tools files/x-ray field  test tools, HVL test tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and microprocessor based equipment
  • Uses common hand tools as required in the performance of job tasks
  • Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs: passive electronic circuits such as low, high and band pass filters, and resonant circuits, active electronic circuits such as D-C amplifiers, differential amplifiers, operational amplifiers, power supplies, silicon controller rectifier assemblies, multivibrators and switching circuits, and basic electronic circuits and sub-assemblies such as filters, transformers, rectifiers, regulators, transistors, and computer control systems
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs. Equipment responsibilities include, but are not limited to, radiographic, fluoroscopic, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT and MRI equipment, computerized equipment including digital radiology and therapy equipment; and other radiographic equipment, such as film processors
  • Performs spot and routine safety and performance checks
  • Within an appropriate interval, should be prepared to assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The following performance expectations represent core competency requirements for the position of Imaging Equipment Technician, Intermediate:

  • Interacts in a professional manner with all client staff, patients and co-workers
  • Maintains knowledge of, and compliance with, ISS Solutions Service Reporting System, policies and procedures
  • Maintains knowledge of, and compliance with corporate, and client mandated policies regarding workplace safety issues (infection control, fire safety, hazard communications, etc)
  • Maintains knowledge of the clinical purpose, proper operating procedures, maintenance requirements, and risks associated with use, of imaging devices for which the technicians has maintenance responsibilities
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems to component level when such troubleshooting is cost effective, time effective and possible. Is able to weigh all factors to make this decision
  • Demonstrates proper and effective use of test equipment and is able to utilize information from test equipment for logical troubleshooting
  • Interprets schematic drawings and is able to link drawings into a logical pathway for basic circuit analysis
  • Demonstrates effective equipment assembly/disassembly, and component replacement skills
  • Should have a basic understanding of FDA 21 CFR, Subchapter J rules and regulations

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be experienced in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining radiographic equipment, having worked for at least three years in a healthcare institution or with a radiographic device manufacturer
  • Must be familiar with the management of hospital technologies
  • Must have one additional modality of speciality equipment. Mammography, CT Ultrasound, Laser Printers, Bone Desitometers, CR or DR systems, Diacom, Pacs, MR, Linear accelerators and etc.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic devices down to the component level
  • Must be experienced with inventory and ordering procedures commonly associated with repair and maintenance of electronic, electric and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Must work with a minimum of supervision
  • Should be familiar with inspection and maintenance procedures to determine or to ensure the safety and performance of equipment commonly found in health care institutions
  • Should have completed or be enrolled in a two-year Associate Degree program in Biomedical Equipment Technology or military equivalent
  • Certification as a Radiology Equipment Technician by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation should be attained or to be a goal within three years. Familiarity with TJC standards in general and Environment of Care (EOC) elements related to medical equipment in particular.
  • Must be able to read and write English and communicate effectively with hospital staff, vendors, manufacturers and corporate staff
  • Must have exceeded all the requirements for Imaging Equipment Technician, Entry Level

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to access and work in confined spaces with little or no assistance
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. to chest height unassisted and 60 lbs. assisted. Requires working with potentially harmful and irritating chemicals
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation and a valid driver's license
