About Houston-Galveston Area Council   

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.   

We make decisions that affect our transportation system, ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors, connect people to jobs, help families recover from natural disasters, preserve water quality for our children, and so much more. What will I be doing? 

·        Attending or participating in local government or community meetings across the 13-county region

·        Develop and execute a strategic plan to increase services to existing members and recruit new members.

·        Foster new, and maintain existing professional relationships with members, and stakeholders in the region.

·        Manage and facilitate H-GAC outreach efforts to ensure clear and on-brand communication with members, elected officials, and stakeholders.

·        Develop and implement a field engagement plan that is service-driven, professional, and focused on providing exceptional customer service.

 

 

Key Qualifications 

·        Excellent ability to prioritize and be flexible and adaptable when meeting multiple sometimes conflicting deadlines.

·        Strong communication skills with the ability to work with different groups within the agency and interact with elected officials and other stakeholders.  

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

·        Excellent attention to detail, time management, and strong negotiation skills.

·        Understanding of the role of councils of government, counties, municipalities, and school districts in our community.

·        Appetite for event planning, and customer service.

·        High-energy individual with a passion for public service.

 

Do you have…  

·        Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

·        5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, schools, or in job-related duties  

  

Preferred Qualification

·        Graduate degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

·        8 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, schools, or in job-related duties
