Our Chattanooga, TN office is looking for an entry-level IT Technician to join our IT Department.

Position Summary:

The IT Technician position is an entry-level position which provides technical assistance to computer system users, answering questions or resolving technology problems for internal customers of all EMJ offices, subsidiaries and/or related companies in person, via telephone, or from remote location. The IT Technician may provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, application support, electronic mail, and operating systems.

What You Will Be Doing in This Role:

Operations Support

  • Provides on-site technical, program, and general IT operations support
  • Answers user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems
  • Helps all employees resolve computer related issues
  • Helps with producing training materials and training sessions

Hardware Technician

  • Installs and configures software and hardware
  • Makes recommendations and performs upgrades for servers, workstations, phone systems, printers, and other devices
  • Assists in researching and testing new software selections
  • Responsible for keeping computer images updated

Systems Support

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of existing information processing systems and develops new systems to improve production or workflow as required
  • Performs system and network troubleshooting

Information Assurance

  • Ensures that all data is protected from internal and external threats
  • Lead and support others to ensure security compliance
  • Escalates issues to IT Manager as needed
  • Assists in ensuring that all backups are performed regularly

Asset Management

  • Assists in the management and tracking of technology assets
  • Keeps a library of all software, hardware, and supporting documentation


What You Need for This Role:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a helpdesk technician or related experience and/or an Associates degree in Computer Science
  • Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting techniques
  • Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and standards
  • Application support experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Broad knowledge of data processing systems, concepts, and methodologies
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor network and systems maintenance and perform equipment repairs
  • Ability to make recommendations for computer related training, and provide one on one training on policies and computer usage as needed
  • Outstanding customer service orientation, operating with a sense of urgency, good verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Travel is required
  • Some tasks may be performed outside normal business hours
