Sovereign is for an engaged and talented leader who is as comfortable underwriting mid-to-large complex risks as they are coaching and mentoring their team on the art of underwriting. Understanding the value of strong and mutually beneficial partnerships you will build key relationships that will support sustainable growth into the future.


What you’re responsible for:

  • Underwriting mid-to-large complex automobile risks, preparation of quotes and negotiate coverage or rates as applicable.

  • Reviewing new business, renewals and endorsements for acceptability within industry-based segmentation risk appetite.

  • Assigning and reviewing work by conducting file audits and evaluate performance.

  • Advocating a collaborative work environment where team members share opinions and work together effectively to deliver results.

  • Coaching and developing your team, recruiting and selecting talent, recognizing achievements, and managing performance, to develop an agile and high-performance team that achieves department objectives in growth, profitability and employee engagement targets. 

What to expect:

  • You will travel occasionally.

  • Detail oriented work that requires a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time. 

  • You will provide support to clients who are experiencing a personal or financial loss. A high degree of confidentiality and discretion is required.

  • As a leader, strict confidentiality is required with respect to sensitive matters and employees’ personal information.

  • As a leader, you will assist with recruitment and selection, onboarding, and other aspects of the employee life cycle.

To join our team:

  • Minimum 10 years commercial automobile underwriting experience at a senior or specialist level.

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience successfully leading a team of insurance professionals.

  • Strong technical expertise and sound underwriting skillset in large and complex commercial automobile risks.

  • CIP / FCIP designation preferred.
