CARE is an international NGO with local staff and community partners in 100 countries. We create local solutions to poverty and inequality and we seek dignity for everyone every day and during times of crisis. These solutions have a broad range, from disaster response to food and nutrition to education and work for women and girls to healthy mothers and children. CARE puts women and girls at the center of everything we do because when they have equal access to resources, they lift their families and communities out of poverty. Our staff live where they work, which makes us effective at understanding the challenges they face. We’ve been doing this for 75 years, since World War II. It started with the world’s first CARE Package® of food for the post-war hungry in Europe. Our work today is as important as ever, we believe that poverty and inequality are historic injustices that we can end within a generation, for good. If you share our core beliefs: poverty is an injustice; poverty is solvable; and together, we have the power to end it, join us, and Fight with CARE.

Chomoka aims to be the leading financial empowerment platform for rural Africans, most of whom live under the global poverty line. Launched in partnership with CARE International, Chomoka is a digital ledger that helps Village Savings & Loan Groups improve the accuracy and quality of their financial records and delivers a marketplace of financially empowering products & services. There are over 15 million members of Village Savings and Loan groups in Africa, most of whom are women.
In its first two years, Chomoka has an early track record of success in Tanzania and is looking to hire a Managing Director - Chomoka to lead the next phase of expansion across Africa. This position will report to Chomoka's Board of Directors, get the chance to lead the spin-off of Chomoka from CARE International, lead marketplace expansion, and be part of the ownership of Chomoka.
We are seeking a proven fintech senior executive who has experience successfully leading aggressive mobile adoption across multiple geographies. The successful candidate will power and drive Chomoka from its current, early success in Tanzania into the future global leader in mobile technology for Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLA) groups. S/he will be responsible for short, mid and long-term strategy, culture and organizational development while delivering financial, operational and social impact goals against objectives.
